The Prinčič winery is located in the village of Oslavia, in Friiuli, right on the border of Italy and Slovenia. Dario has been farming biodynamically since 1988, and established his winery in 1993. This winery is one of the first to bring orange wines to Italy, and all of his white wines go through a long skin maceration and open vat fermentation. The winery itself is very steeply terraced and the soil is composed of mostly clay and sandstone.
All of his wines are powerful and deeply complex, and this Merlot is no different. It undergoes a 10 day maceration, with spontaneous fermentation in old oak, and is then aged in old Slovenian barrels. This 2006 vintage has aged into a beautiful rich wine full of spices and dried fruit, that is unlike any Merlot we've ever had.
